Yes. New Orleans alone has three yacht clubs and two sailing associations as well as numerous fleet associations. There is a highly active racing and cruising contingent on Lake Pontchartrain and the Gulf Coast and it’s evidenced by nearly one third of the US Olympic Sailing Team coming from the city and the coast. Please visit either the New Orleans Yacht Club or the Southern Yacht Club for more information.
The New Orleans Municipal Yacht Harbor Management Corporation (MYHMC), a public benefit corporation of the City of New Orleans, leases and manages all of the City’s property at West End – the property located between the New Basin Canal & the 17th Street Canal, outside of the levee/flood wall, except for Orleans Marina (and the surrounding boathouses and businesses), SYC and a sliver of Jefferson Parish along the 17th Street Canal.
For over a century the City has been responsible for West End. It has seen its ups and downs, but has always been an important part of life in the City.
