Lakefront Parks for Gathering & Recreation

West End Park and Breakwater Park are two of the public green spaces managed by MYHMC along the lakefront. Both are open to the public daily and available for private events through our park rental process.

Open daily, 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
No overnight parking or camping.

Grilling is Welcome

Barbecue pits and grills are allowed.
Open fires are not. No glass containers.

  • Grilling in barbecue pits and grills is allowed. Open fires and dumping coals outside approved receptacles are not.
  • Pets must be leashed at all times
  • No overnight parking or camping
  • No swimming
  • No glass containers
  • No firearms, hunting, or noisemaking devices

Reserve the Park for Your Event

West End Park and Breakwater Park are available to rent for private events. Capacity up to 500 people including staff and vendors.

  • Important: Events involving promoters, vendors, food/beverage sales, alcohol, street closures, or other complexity may also require a City of New Orleans Special Event Permit. Rental approval does not replace this requirement.

  • Events with 150 or more attendees require a security plan including police detail. Events over 50 people lasting more than 2 hours require portable restrooms (1 per 50 guests) and a waste management plan.

  • What’s not allowed: Political events, frying, seafood boils, drones, glass containers, parking on grass, water activities, or loud/explicit music.

Park Booking Request

Submit at least two weeks in advance. Submission is a request, not a guarantee of availability.

Water slides, dunking booths, and other water activities are NOT allowed on city property.
